Just spotted this peek over at Patty's blog. Looks like she has a new line with Michale Miller coming out this Fall. It's called Sanctuary. Can't wait to see these up close! Congrats to Patty.
She made another "naptime" apron and she's making a matching mommy apron too! You can check out this tutorial right HERE.
Don't you love this fabric?? I love how they coordinate.
Plus, it turns out Tracy has a blog right HERE. It's super cute and it's all about her mad rush to craft during naptime's. I can relate to that! Way to go Tracy.
OK. Maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but I think it's cool. Do you remember this post about making fabric flowers? Well, it was the most viewed link from the 733 Blog link party. I am pretty excited about that one. Have you guys had a chance to try this out? I'd love to see your creations.
I wanted to start a feature where I can share with you my very favorite sites and blogs for fabric and inspiration. Little Green Notebook is one of my very favorite sites of all time! Jenny is a designer, but I appreciate her creative ideas on saving money as well. Nothing makes me crazier than to see a gorgeous room and then see the not-so-gorgeous price tag. Jenny is the queen of keeping it real.
I loved her ottoman idea so much that I had to make my own. You can see mine right HERE.
Jenny recovered this settee for her dining room. Yep, it was a thrift store settee to start out. I love the fabric she chose on this baby.
See those lovely drapes? Yep, Jenny sewed them as well. I'd never think to take something plain and turn it so chic. I love her style.
Yeah, I know it's not really fabric, but do you love this credenza? Jenny refinished it into a work of art! For more great inspiration, check out Little Green Notebook.
PS. And no, I'm not at all paid to do this. I wish I were, but I'm not. I just love sharing great sites with you guys.
New feature, folks. I'm calling it "Sew in the Know Tuesday." It's where I can share all the fabric gossip... errr.... news, featuring new releases, and generally talk about what's new with fabric.
Today, we have a picture of Tula Pink's new Parisville line. It's her first line with Free Spirit and it looks just gorgeous!
I think as a person who sews, I tend to look for ideas and inspiration everywhere. I wanted to do a little feature where I take am object or picture that I like, and find wonderful fabrics that go with my inspiration pieces.
And here are the fabrics I found. I found them at Hawthorne Threads which has a fabulous tool for matching colors!
1. Nicey Jane by Heather Bailey 2. Early Bird by Cosmo Cricket 3. Aqua Dots by Michael Miller 4. Meadowsweet by Sandi Henderson 5. My Mind's Eye Summersong 6. Filigree by Pat Bravo 7. Meadowsweet by Sandi Henderson 8. Zanzabelle by Alexander Henry
I tried to stick with the bright, fruit-y feel. And there you go. Inspiration from soap!
This was such a fun project. These canvases hang in my little girls' bedroom. The downside? I need to hang them using 2 tacks instead of one. I'm always straightening these babies. But... they look good at an angle too, so it's all good.
My sis-in-law (Happy Birthday yesterday,Dana) bought the canvases and had us all sit and craft together. That's something about my husband's family... when we get together (I believe this was Thanksgiving), they don't just catch-up and visit. They have to be doing. I don't mind. I call them a "memory making" family.
Anyhow... way off topic...
So, these canvases are 12x12. You can find them at Michael's or Hobby Lobby or online. They come plain white. STEP 1. I measured and cut my fabric. A lot of people cover these with paper, but I found that fabric wraps a lot easier and I have a fabric obsession. So I used it instead. Make sure you leave room to wrap the canvas.
Step 2: Decoupage!! Glue that fabric on. Or, you could use a staple gun and staple it on. The choice is all yours. Let it dry, if you went the glue-route.
Step 3: Embellish. It really amazes me how similar fabric crafting and scrapbooking are. I used my scrapbooking supplies to embellish the canvases. The words "Believe in yourself" are vinyl. You can order this online with a simple search. I was lucky that Dana had a machine and did this for a while. I miss Dana's vinyl machinge (probably a lot more than Dana.)
Good embellishments:
Ribbon Flowers Frames Metal Words Paper
Keep it simple and enjoy playing around with it until you like it.
Step 4: Stick everything on. Hot glue or glue dots or whatever you like best!
Step 5: Hang and enjoy! Remember, use 2 pins or nails to keep these hanging straight. Trust me. Don't make the me mistake I did. It's a really beautiful way to use up your fabric leftover from quilts in a room. Plus, it will match your quilt perfectly. *wink*
